The Indomitable Spirit of Bennie Hayes

Spirited and quick-witted BENNIE HAYES has always had a rebellious streak, and keeps feeling resistance any time she thinks about her soon-to-be future as a housewife. She takes a job at a WWII plane factory to do her part for the war effort; but when a coworker is found dead, she sets out to find the killer, discovering her true calling in the process—as a talented private detective. Bennie has to decide whether she’s going to live the life that’s expected of her or follow her heart instead.

Hi,I’m Meaghan

Growing up, I loved reading and daydreaming and wondering about the lives of other people. And I loved mysteries, especially Nancy Drew and Murder She Wrote. I was fascinated with the trails of clues and the entertaining characters, but also with the protagonists, who were fearless and always seemed to know what to do, and what to say. I wanted to be like that and I still do. Bennie is an homage to the brilliant amateur sleuth, but a little less perfect and a little more modern, even if she does live in a 1942 world.

My writing partner, Mabel

Mabel is a living, weighted stuffed animal. She loves people, being asked if she’s a doggers, and good stuff in her kibble, such as a pieces of meatball or diced apples. She’s working on personal space.
